Did you teach anywhere before MacArthur? Yes, Eisenhower Jr. High, MacArthur Jr. High, Lawton Ft. Sill Arts Counsel, DHS, and the Juvenile Detention Center.
Where did you graduate from? MacArthur for my high school and Cameron University, where i got my Bachelors degree.
Why did you want to teach? So I can teach art to those who want to learn it.
What were some other things you taught? I taught Martial Arts and I was in the Army Reserve.
How do you keep your students motivated? I show them my artwork and tell them that everything they do is art, even doodling.

Alphonso Chapman teaches Art I at MacArthur High School. This is his fourth year here at MacArthur. Before coming to MacArthur In January 2006 through May 2006 he did dual teaching at Eisenhower Jr. High and MacArthur High. Mr. Chapman graduated from MacArthur in 1977 and took courses at Cameron University where he earned a BA in Art and a minor in Military Science in 1981. Mr. Chapman was in Army Reserves (Mobilized 2x) for 24 years. Mr. Chapman became a teacher to get a chance to teach Art to students that want to learn. Mr. Chapman has even taught art classes for DHS, the Juvenile Detention Center, and the Lawton Ft. Sill Arts Counsel. He even taught Martial Arts for 15 years. He keeps his students motivated by showing them his artwork. He shows them that everything they do is art and that the "doodlings" they draw are good. The time of and the pay is what got Mr. Chapman interested in becoming a teacher. He says, "with a family of seven, I need more income and time off to help raise them."
