About Us

MacArthur High School, named after the WWII and Korean War General Douglass A. MacArthur, is located at 4400 E. Gore Boulevard. It opened its doors to the public in 1969, and 440 students, seventh grade through sophomores, began classes and started the traditions that have been carried on throughout the years.

At the end of the 1971-72 school year, the Board of Education voted to divide MacArthur Junior-Senior High School into two separately governed institutions, and MacArthur High School was officially born.  With the Highlander as our mascot and the green, black, and gold as our colors, Big Mac embarked on a path of academic and athletic excellence.

In the beautiful, spacious, $2.1 million building, you only have to walk down the carpeted halls of our marble, steel, and brick structure, eat at our fine cafeteria, watch a performance in our 1215-seat auditorium, or set foot in our large classrooms to catch a glimpse of the high school spirit our students possess.

The original school building, with an area of 67,178 square feet was built from a flexible design that enabled expansion of the east wing, which was built in 1995.

In 2004, the freshman class became a part of Big Mac, allowing the junior high to officially become MacArthur Middle School, housing sixth through eighth grades.

MHS enrollment at the beginning of the 2010-11 school year totaled 1070 freshman through senior students with 74 certified staff members and 53 support staff members.

Big Mac has been the home of many future state congressional leaders, NFL players, and even a Miss America.
