Eesha Katta takes 1st

Eisenhower High School freshman Eesha Katta claimed another accolade for her writing as she took home first place in the District Optimist Oratory Speech Contest in Oklahoma City recently.

Katta, who has already been recognized for her writing by multiple organizations, received a $2500 scholarship to be used at a college of her choice with the win. The theme of the contest was “Discovering the Optimism Within Me.” Eesha will now move on to compete in the National/International Competition in St. Louis, Mo. in June.

This is not the first time a Lawton Public Schools student has won this competition. Katta joins Lawton High School’s AdyLynn Anderson, who won the same honor last year and went on to win the Southwest Region of the National Competition. Both students are mentored by retired LPS teacher Dr. Terence Freeman.

Congratulations to Eesha on all your hard work and good luck at the next stage of the competition!
