OKLAHOMA CITY – MacArthur High School Junior ROTC brought home several awards – including third place Overall Grand Champions – on Feb. 10 from the Southern Plains Classic Drill Meet at the OKC Fairground’s Jim Norick Arena.

The Highlander Battalion competed in multiple categories against other Army, Air Force and Navy Junior ROTC teams from Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas.

The Armed Drill Team, commanded by Cadet 1st Sgt. Scott Mahrer, placed first in the inspection phase, second in the regulation phase, and second in the exhibition phase.

The Unarmed Drill Team, commanded by Cadet 1st Lt. Abigail Benoit, placed first in the inspection phase, second in the regulation phase and first in the exhibition phase. Benoit also received the Commander of Excellence Award, which honors the top scoring unarmed cadet commander.

In the Solo Armed Drill Exhibition Division, Cadet 1st Lt. Nicholas Godfrey won first place for his solo routine. Additionally, Godfrey and Cadet Master Sgt. Ian Barrois won third place for their dual routine.
