Several students at Crosby Park Elementary School received awards on Monday for their participation in the annual PTA Reflections program.
The theme for this year’s competition was “I Belong!” Reflections is a National PTA cultural arts recognition program that helps students explore their thoughts, feelings and ideas; they develop artistic literacy; increase confidence and creativity; develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills; and find a love for learning, according to a press release.
Students in pre-K through 12th grade create original works of art and submit their completed works of art in several categories, including: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts.
Crosby Park Elementary School was the only school in Lawton Public Schools to participate.
The winners are:
Visual Arts, Primary: Evelyn Hoyt, kindergarten, “This is My Ocean,” first place.
Visual Arts, Intermediate: Elaria Taitano, third grade, “My Family, My World,” first place; Annie Ghrayyeb, third grade, “I May Not Win,” second place; Ariya Hearne, third grade, “Sunset,” third place; Saylah Hearne, third grade, “A Night’s Sky,” fourth place.
Dance, Primary: Evelyn Hoyt, kindergarten, “I am Golden,” first place.
Dance, Intermediate: Annie Ghrayyeb, third grade, “Dance of My Culture,” first place; Vivienne Patterson, fourth grade, “I am a Firework!!!”, second place; Ariya Hearne, third place, “One Summers Day,” third place; Saylah Hearne, third place, “Sweetest Taboo,” fourth place.
Music, Intermediate: Ariya Hearne, third grade, “Let’s Get Together,” participation; Saylah Hearne, third grade, “Let’s Get Together,” participation.
Photography, Intermediate: Annie Ghrayyeb, third place, “Life Cycle,” first place.
Finalists will advance to Oklahoma State PTA, where Award of Excellence winners will advance to the National PTA round for judging.
